How to turn first time clients into regulars

Winning a new client is expensive. Keeping one costs a sentence at the right moment. Retention, not reach, is what makes an independent business stable.

Rebook before they leave

The best moment to book the next appointment is while the client is looking at the result they just paid for. Ask directly: shall I put you in for six weeks so you get your usual slot? Most people say yes because the alternative is remembering to do it later.

Aftercare is retention

  • Send aftercare in writing, not just verbally at the door.
  • Include what to avoid in the first forty eight hours.
  • Tell them when to come back and why, in plain terms.

Follow up on a schedule

  1. Day two: quick check that they are happy with the result.
  2. Week four: a maintenance tip, no sell.
  3. Week six or your normal cycle: an invitation with two specific dates.

Track who has drifted

Once a month, look at clients you have not seen in twice their normal cycle and send a short personal message. It is the highest return hour of admin you will do all month.
